Hooks, What are you using?

Hooks, What are you using?

Post  Jim on Tue May 19, 2009 1:49 pm

Hey people,
I've used all sorts of hook patterns, types, makes and so forth, over the years, but I've sort of lost my way a bit. What do you guys suggest is the best hook (make, pattern, etc.) around at the moment? I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions, on this topic - even from wrongenuk!!! Laughing

Korda Curves or Korda Long Shank X

I was a big Gardner Mugga user until the Korda Curve came out.
The Korda is teflon coated so it doesn't reflect light and is ALOT sharper.

I think the curved hook has faster and better hooking potential. If not I use the long shanks

Wrongenuk has a view on everything ! lol! He would have commented anyway Jim so dont encourage him ! lol!

Anyway for me I love CarpRus hooks. Sharpest hooks Ive ever used. Nice dark black colour. I use the Nailer shortshank pattern which has great hooking capabilities and Ive never lost a fish since switching to them.

Anyway I look forward to wrongenuks response ripping my hooks apart ! lol!

Thanks Jim im Honored that you ask Little ole me for an opinion lol....
My answer to your question is in 2 parts......First ive found an inch & 3/4 size 4 nail bent with a set of pliers always does the trick for me...or a MASSIVE left hook from know where normaly sorts them out good and proper lmao....

But on a serious note Mr Admin....there is nothing wrong with the good old nailer hook 100% quality in my opinion i also use the longshank nailers..and the same as Mr Rich on the other hooks from Korda

Hi Jim ....I think a lot depends where you are fishing and what you are fishing for ( size of Carp ) .

As I fish abroad a lot and the fish out there have much bigger mouths ...I tend to use a much bigger hook's than the size 10s I used to use over here years ago.

I also look at the thickness of the wire the hook is made up from, as when fishing the big inland seas or wild rivers abroad, I dont want one that will straighten or break. Very Happy

OWNER
all the way for me!...
C-1 strong as hell and check out the barb close up!... this hook I use a lot with all material and mono
C-3 for pop-ups
C-8 for open water and blow back rigs or 360 for short range work as it is a fine wire hook.
I have never found a faulty hook in a packet yet!...

hooks

Light refraction through water glistening off a hook point in 4' of murky water and if your worried a black marker pen !!!!!!! Super specs or muggas cover most angling situations don,t over complicate what does'nt need to be. R u out to catch a fish or 3 or your self!!!!!!! think about it.

Hi Jim,

Personally you cant beat the Fox Arma Point Hooks. They are teflon caoted and very sharp and come in a variety of shapes.

My favorite is the size 8 ssc fished using a blow back rig. nails them every time. give it a try.

They are about £4 a pack 10 hooks so they are not cheap but in this world you do pay for what you get!
